Thirty years ago when Mark-Anthony Turnage and Jonathan Moore’s adaptation of the Oedipus tale, Greek premiered it shook the opera world. In celebration of three decades Jonathan Moore, who directed the premiere performance has brought this incredible work back to the place where it is set, London’s East End.
The story of Oedipus Rex is old and well-known. You will kill your father and marry your mother. Based on Steven Berkoff’s stage play of the same name this old as time story is given new life in a new era. 1980s in the East End of London with musical influences from jazz to London itself, it’s not exactly what you think when you think opera. This show has been captivating audiences for 30 years and now is your chance to see why. This performance contains live music performed by a full band and is sung in English.
